Are You Laptop Healthy? Are You Laptop Healthy?

Laptops allow us to work more flexibly and be more mobile but they have been blamed for causing work-related back, neck and shoulder problems.

By following these simple steps you can improve your comfort whilst working.

  • Use a separate keyboard and mouse so that the laptop can be put on a stand and the screen opened at eye level.
  • Use your laptop on a stable base where there is support for your arms, and not on your lap.
  • Adopt good sitting posture with lower back support, and ensure that other desk equipment is within reach.
  • Take regular breaks to relieve upper body tension.  If you’re moving, there’s a lot less stress on your muscles and joints.
  • Get into good habits before the aching starts.  Sit up straight with your lower back supported.  Neck, shoulder and back problems gradually build up over time.

NHS Choices have put together this video on stretches to help you with your posture.
